Mama's Tamales - Beautiful Community Support

When we think about how businesses can really serve people, this is what should come to mind. What a beautiful example of people supporting one another. 3 minute video. Watch it and be inspired! Then, pass it on to others.

Mama's Tamales helps homeless people start their own businesses.

I should also disclose that I am proud to know the mother who developed Gorilla Life, the product highlighted in this video!

  1. Dear Shelly,
Hello, there, Shelly! I am very inspired by what the amazing and remarkable people have done in suppporting each other, and in finding and enacting their self-empowerment and their agency! What proactive people, with Mama Sandi Romero and all of the good she has done in providing a physical space for these businesses, and in other ways, and the others, all of them are very brilliant. I am truly inpired, like with the great people who created the product, and the wonderful mother you mentioned who bravely encouraged her family to prevail over adversity, and for them to have their own successful business. All of the people involved helping one another, and the church and others involved, show that truly there is the power of people coming together in unity, and the power of community.

I am going to let my friends know about this video, and I have been telling my white women sisterfriends about your great and enlighteningly progressive 1st and 2nd Editions of Witnessing Whiteness, and how I enjoyed reading these educational and inspiring books, and I am also telling my dearest white sisterfriends all about the great Companion Workshop Series, the rest of your website, your blog, and of all of the excellet hard work you have accomplished in your powerful witnessing whiteness. I will for sure spread the word, Shelly!

This great video shows me how important it is to keep faith and hope alive. The brave people starting their own businesses and coming forth from poverty and homelessness, and everyone involved are proof positive that good things can and will happen. And I think of how Alex Sanchez finally received his long overdue bail, which is another example of how keeping faith and hope alive in the system can and indeed does work!

All of your fine and superb work, and your advocacy toward racial justice, and witnessing whiteness keep my faith and hope alive, Shelly, and I thank-you so, so much for all of the powerful witnessing that you do so well. You have helped to give me as a black/African-American woman an increased hope, faith, and optimism! Blessings so, so much to you for always, Shelly!

    Sincerely always,

    Sherry Gordon
